the Redford Theater in Detroit

Awesome, awesome day. Started with kickboxing with Julie and Beth, who seems to be a natural. Later picked up Julie and went to Beth’s house for socializing and dinner (both delightful) before heading off to the Redford Theater in Detroit. I’d never been before but this will be the first of many visits.

It’s an old-fashioned theater that is in the process of restoration and is run by volunteers. They’ve done an amazing job! It feels like a real community activity too, with people clapping along, singing the Star Spangled Banner, and reacting to the movie as if for the first time — and this was “It’s a Wonderful Life” which I think we can agree is fairly familiar.

Inner lobby (I don’t what this area is really called). Look at that ceiling! that chandelier! That crowd keeping me from getting popcorn!
To the left of the movie screen area.
To the right of the movie screen. In front of the screen is a Christmas tree, a model train display, and the wonderful organ.
Redford Theater organ. It’s beautiful, and this musician did a wonderful job playing Christmas music. And, when appropriate, the Wedding March! A couple got engaged right on stage during intermission. It was very exciting!
